Myopia Awareness Week 2025: EssilorLuxottica Celebrates 45 Years of Myopia Management Innovation
3 min

On the occasion of Myopia Awareness Week 2025, EssilorLuxottica is celebrating 45 years of research and experience in myopia, reaffirming its commitment to advance innovation, education, awareness and access to myopia management.

Myopia is on the rise globally, estimated to affect 50% of the world’s population by 2050, making it more important than ever to monitor children’s eye health. To educate people further, Myopia Awareness Week – held this year on May 19 to 23 and championed by the Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI) with the theme ‘Screens Down, Eyes Up!’ – serves as an important reminder of the growing prevalence and need for timely, proactive management of myopia.

EssilorLuxottica continues to support this initiative since 2021 and has consistently delivered high-impact solutions over the past four and a half decades, including Essilor Stellest lenses, to address the growing global myopia epidemic. The Group continues to expand its portfolio today, with its focus remaining on providing holistic and personalized care that can make a lasting impact worldwide.

Multi-Modal Approach to Myopia Care

Early detection and intervention, particularly during pre-myopia stages, can help delay the onset of myopia in children, positioning its Essilor Stellest lenses as an important solution for myopia management. In 2025, Essilor Stellest has expanded to include a comprehensive, multi-modal approach to ensure every child receives the most effective care as early as possible so they can benefit from clearer vision and a brighter future.

The Group’s approach features an innovation ecosystem with advanced diagnostic tools, such as the Vision-R 800 powered with Digital Infinite Refraction technology and the Myopia Expert 700, as well as solutions to delay myopia onset along with Essilor Stellest lenses and SightGlass Vision’s Diffusion Optics Technology lenses to manage progression. For further support, the Essilor Stellest Myopia Suite allows eyecare professionals to monitor and communicate more effectively with patients, ensuring that myopia care is more personalized and accessible.

Promoting Awareness Through Strategic Collaborations

To keep myopia education and awareness at the forefront, EssilorLuxottica collaborates with key organizations, including the International Myopia Institute (IMI), Myopia Profile, WSPOS, Review of Myopia Management and the Global Myopia Awareness Coalition (GMAC), with Olga Prenat serving as the current Board Chair.

EssilorLuxottica also partners and shares expertise with research institutes, including the Hôpital Fondation Adolphe de Rothschild, Inria and Institut de la Vision on the PREMYOM project, a five-year initiative aimed at setting new standards in medical optics and developing personalized myopia treatment solutions.

Driving the Global Myopia Conversation

EssilorLuxottica continues to play an active role in global scientific discussions on myopia management, participating in international conferences, such as ARVO, European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO), British Contact Lens Association (BCLA), the 5th World Congress of Optometry, and many more in 2025. These conferences offer a platform to share the latest research, including the recent six-year clinical trial results of Essilor Stellest lenses, which show long-term efficacy in slowing myopia progression, even in teenagers and young adults up to 19 years old.

Educating Eyecare Professionals

Through its Leonardo leaning ecosystem, EssilorLuxottica provides eyecare professionals (ECPs) with a range of learning resources, including research insights and specialized content to advance their understanding of myopia management. Useful new courses have been added focusing on managing pre-myopia and delaying myopia onset, along with expert videos and the latest research on Essilor Stellest lenses.

The Group also delivers campaigns and in-store materials to help ECPs promote myopia awareness and offer better care, while its programs like the Eyestar Mission empower children to take responsibility for their vision health.

Together, let’s continue to shape the future of myopia management to empower the next generations with clearer vision.
