‘Eyes on the Planet’: a new program for a sustainable future

EssilorLuxottica took an important step towards a more sustainable future by announcing its Corporate Social Responsibility program called ‘Eyes on the Planet’.

The program outlines the Company’s ambitions and strategy for sustainability, based on the following five key pillars:

Eyes on Carbon: To reduce its footprint and combat climate change, the Company is working toward achieving carbon neutrality across its direct operations (Scope 1 & 2 emissions) by 2025, starting in Europe by 2023. To turn this vision into reality, the Company is focusing on renewable energy, efficiency and the protection and restoration of natural ecosystems. The Company also regularly monitors the Scope 3 emissions associated with transportation and distribution of products and has already launched several initiatives within the supply chain, such as green shipment.

Eyes on Circularity: Committed to reducing its impact on the planet, the Company is taking steps to implement a ‘4R’s program’: “Research-Recycle-Reduce-Reuse”. Its goals are to invest on innovative materials, fighting fossil based contents, limiting and managing waste, maximizing recycling and upcycling, aiming on circularity of materials and products. EssilorLuxottica has launched the first international chair devoted to the circular economy, the ‘Global Circular Economy Chair’, together with the Essec Business School and other global industry players to advance on research, design and development of more circular products.

Eyes on World Sight: Good vision is a basic human right. EssilorLuxottica is committed to eliminating poor vision by 2050 and making eye care accessible to everyone, everywhere. In 2021, it created access to sustainable vision care for over 20 million people by training over 650 community based primary vision care entrepreneurs and establishing four new vision centers. 

Eyes on Inclusion: EssilorLuxottica was also recognized this year by the Financial Times “Diversity Leaders” list, proof of its efforts around diversity and inclusion in recent years. These efforts include several initiatives at global and local level from addressing unconscious bias to the promotion of female career development, from the integration of disabled people in the workplace to the creation of an employee-led Think Tank and Business Resource Groups (BRGs) to bring people from various backgrounds together through common interests.

Eyes on Ethics: An ethical approach to business is an absolute priority because it positively impacts teams, and has a tangible influence on the Company’s millions of consumers and customers around the world. EssilorLuxottica’s vertically integrated business model is the key to delivering an ethical approach wherever we do business. From concept to design, distribution and beyond, EssilorLuxottica’s 360 degree view of the supply chain allows us to ensure its products are created responsibly - using the highest quality materials and applying the most stringent manufacturing and safety standards.

In 2022, EssilorLuxottica will continue working towards its ambitions: to achieve carbon neutrality by 2025, starting in Europe by 2023; to embed ecodesign in all our developments by 2025 and to eliminate poor vision in one generation.
