EssilorLuxottica supports Australia’s affected communities and wildlife
3 min read

Australia is experiencing catastrophic and unprecedented bushfires, which have destroyed hundreds of homes and burned thousands of hectares of land, causing massive devastation to wildlife, ecosystems and businesses. With customers and consumers all around Australia, EssilorLuxottica takes pride in being part of these communities and is committed to helping them battle these bushfires as they rebuild their livelihoods.

From offering donations to supporting local communities and injured wildlife with eye care and free replacement glasses, EssilorLuxottica is extending its support in a number of ways.

Through Essilor Australia and Luxottica (which includes OPSM, Sunglass Hut, Laubman & Pank, Ray-Ban and Oakley), the Group will donate a total of approximately 105,000 € (AUD $170,000) – evenly distributed between the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund and WIRES WildLife Rescue. These funds will go towards supporting local communities recover and rebuild, and providing the care needed for the millions of injured wildlife.

EssilorLuxottica is also offering direct service, eye care and support to affected communities, along with 24/7 emergency services in partnership with global nonprofit group OneSight, and OPSM, a leading eye care and eyewear retailer in Australia and New Zealand. Both organizations are offering free replacement glasses and OPSM has been delivering lubricating eye drops to major evacuation points in fire affected areas.

Working with local optometrists in and around these impacted communities, Essilor will provide free replacement lenses to patients who have lost or damaged their lenses due to the bushfires.

Over the next four weeks EssilorLuxottica will also be matching every dollar that employees at Essilor Australia and Luxottica individually donate to the Australian Red Cross through a workplace giving program, up to approximately 31,000 € (AUD $50,000).

In addition, for every pair of lenses sold to Independent Optometry during the month of January 2020, Essilor will donate a further one dollar to the Australian Red Cross.

Luxottica has set up a Volunteer Disaster Relief Leave program conceived for employees that are active volunteers and are making their services available to impacted regions.
