Powering Vision with Key Sustainability & Mission Milestones

Guided by our Mission to help people worldwide 'see more and be more', EssilorLuxottica’s strategy is strongly intertwined with sustainability commitments linked to our Company-wide ‘Eyes on the Planet’ program, which features five key pillars to support our goal of eliminating uncorrected poor vision within a generation.

Eyes on World Sight

Globally recognized for our extensive reach and expertise, last year the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation was selected as the first global collaborating partner on the World Health Organization’s SPECS 2030 initiative. This groundbreaking program accelerates the delivery of vision care worldwide by increasing effective refractive error coverage and ensuring universal access to quality vision care. At the same time, it aligns with United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the ‘Vision for Everyone’ resolution, driving progress in poverty alleviation, health, education, gender equality and economic growth.

Foundation initiatives, such as Vision for All in India and Vula Amehlo in South Africa, are setting new standards of providing access to eye-care and transforming lives in underserved communities. Key partnerships with organizations, such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Special Olympics and AidOcean, are also expanding the Group’s reach to some of the most vulnerable and remote communities.

Recognizing our global impact, EssilorLuxottica earned a spot in Fortune magazine’s ‘Change the World’ list and was named a Champion of Good in Singapore.

“By uniting WHO’s leadership in public health with our expertise in delivering innovative, on-the-ground solutions, we believe we can create a multiplier effect to extend vision care to even the most underserved regions. Together, we have the power to transform lives and uplift entire communities."

ANURAG HANS, Head of Mission at EssilorLuxottica and President of the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation

Eyes on Carbon

Dedicated to minimizing our environmental impact, EssilorLuxottica continued to scale up our renewable energy efforts in 2024 and installed 10 new photovoltaic systems, staying on track to reach carbon neutrality for our direct operations (Scope 1 & 2 emissions) globally by 2025 – already achieved in Europe in 2023.

An innovative project near Pescara, Italy, was announced to restore and repurpose 40 hectares of industrial land around our Barberini site, which includes a large solar energy farm. In addition, last year, our emissions reduction targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Eyes on Circularity

EssilorLuxottica is focused on optimizing resources while ensuring high product standards, aiming to shift from fossil-based materials to bio-based and/or recycled materials and embed eco-design in our innovation developments by the end of 2025.

In 2024, we expanded our Direct-to-Consumer initiatives, positioning our retail operations as hubs for circularity by offering services such as in-store repairs and programs for collecting used eyewear. Progress was made to reduce single-use plastic from eyewear and logistics packaging, and internal recycling capabilities were increased by introducing recycled demo lenses, while recycled nylon scraps from injection molding were used in store furniture.

Eyes on Ethics

Our Code of Ethics and Business Partners' Code of Conduct establish harmonized practices that help protect human and labor rights across our entire value chain.

In 2024, we reinforced our ethical business approach with the launch of a new Anti-Money Laundering Policy, among others, and dedicated training programs for anticorruption and our Code of Ethics.

Eyes on Inclusion

We seek to develop a culture of learning, diversity and safety along with a work environment that offers everyone the same opportunities based on merit and without discrimination.

In 2024, significant progress was made with the publication of our Global EHS Policy; the introduction of a Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) Policy; the launch of an Inclusion Committee to monitor equality and the rollout of ‘Your Voice,’ an employee feedback platform.

Making art accessible for all by breaking down barriers, EssilorLuxottica’s ‘Eyes on Art’ program included the following key partners in France and Italy for 2024: Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, Musée Granet in Aix-En-Provence, and Capitolare Library of Verona, Italy.
